Breathtaking architecture around Sydney

Updated: Oct 16, 2020

We recently took a small group on a tour focussing on Sydney architecture. The tour, which seeks to provide a better understanding of what architecture truly means to the local community covered buildings, suburbs and their back stories.

Starting in the Rocks District, we explain how Sydney Cove was first settled. Then on to Sydney's iconic Opera house and then the majestic buildings in Macquarie St where many beautiful examples of former government buildings made from Sydney sandstone can be seen. Then we strolled through the Domain and into Victoria Street in Kings Cross. These buildings were set for demolition in the 1970's but saved due to the famous Green Bans. After lunch, we venture out to the the inner west suburbs to explore the expansion of housing in the early 1900's. Beyond that to the outer suburbs that were built to cater for the housing boom of the 1950's.

How were our suburbs planned? How were open spaces integrated? Why were strip shops replaced by malls? This full day tour was lots of fun and provided a deep understanding of what makes Sydney the city it is today.
